Smoking
Burning tobacco in the form of cigarette, bidi, pipe or hookah and inhaling the tobacco smoke is called smoking.
Tobacco is derived from the dried leaves of plant Nicotiana tobacum, which is native of America and Nicotiana rustica, which is a native of Europe. The dried tobacco leaves are either smoked or chewed with lime or snuffed.
Tobacco smoke contains:
1) Nicotine: It is the chief, toxic, alkaloid.
Functions of Nicotine:- It stimulates brain and gives pleasure.
- It relaxes muscles.
- Stimulates adrenal medulla to secrete adrenaline.
- It constricts blood vessels.
- It increases heart rate, cardiac output and blood pressure.
- In high doses, Nicotine damages neurons as it causes over-stimulation of neurons. Regular use causes addiction (Nicotine is the chief addictive substance of tobacco).
2) Gases: While smoking, nearly 10% of the smoke is inhaled, remaining is dispersed in air.
3)Tar: Particulate matter (unburnt particles) are called tar particles. Tar contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons like Benzopyrene, Nitrosoamines, methyl chloranthrene, etc. which are carcinogenic.

Re: Smoking
My advise to those addicted smokers. Try them to use e-cigarette. It is way harmful compared to a real cigarette.
