In contrast to other macro-nutrients, nitrogen-containing proteins are important in the formation of new muscle tissue. The human body requires 22 different amino acids, which are found in proteins, and can be classified as essential or non-essential.

Essential amino acids can not be synthesized in the body, while non-essential amino acids can be. Under normal conditions, proteins serve an important role in the repair, maintenance, and growth of body tissues.

Proteins make up about 15% of the total mass of your body and has several roles in the body. Protein also regulates the quality of the acid / alkaline body fluids and is necessary for muscle contraction, hormone production, and activation of metabolic processes.
