The Diet Solution Basics
This diet is based on three fundamental principles:
- Calorie control and manipulation of macronutrients
- Giving your body the nutrients it needs
- Keeping insulin levels stable
The number one thing that determines whether you win or lose weight is your calorie intake. If you are eating more calories than you burn you will gain weight. If you're eating less calories than you burn you will lose weight.
Taking things a step further, the relationship of the three macronutrients; controls proteins, fats and carbohydrates that the weight you gain / lose is muscle or fat. This new diet not only controls the intake of calories, but also the proportion of protein, fats and carbohydrates to promote fat loss and lean muscle gain. In order to lose fat and gain muscle mass, you must give your body the nutrients it needs.

However, losing weight is not as simple as eating fewer calories than you burn. If you do not give your body the nutrients it needs you will feel terrible and their results will be less than stellar.
Side effects of not giving your body the nutrients it needs are fatigue, weakness, irritability, among other unpleasant things, and do not have the energy to workout. Cardiovascular and strength training are vital to gain muscle and lose fat. If you do not have enough energy to work in your daily life, then you certainly will not have the energy to one or the other.
The Diet Solution focuses on giving your body the nutrients it needs (nutrients that must be obtained from the diet), specifically protein and essential fatty acids (EFAs).
