    What Exactly Is Casein?

Casein is a milk protein and accounts for nearly 80% of all proteins found in cow's milk. It has a very rich pool of amino acids, is almost identical with whey protein, which is a byproduct of the cheese. This pool of high amino acid essential aminos, which are responsible for muscle protein synthesis, or MPS.

When ingested, casein clots forming in the stomach which slows the rate of gastric emptying, which affects the rate at which amino acids are absorbed into the blood stream. In other words, because of this clot, casein takes longer to digest in the stomach, which slows down the amount of amino acids that are released into the small in testing where they are absorbed.

It's slow and steady stream of amino acids creates a prolonged but low level of MPS. This makes casein protein supplements are ideal to take when going to bed, or when you know you will go long periods without the opportunity to refuel.

Just like whey protein, there is a standard many options when it comes to the casein supplement. The most common supplements casein is milk protein and calcium casein ate. However, the most effective is the casein micelles.

Micellar casein protein supplement is to slow the release, what whey protein is hydrolyzed to act quickly. This is the culmination of protein supplementation.
