Pause Squats For Greater Power!
One common variation is a pause Squats. Pause squats has several benefits that make them as good as, or superior, regular squats. In the pause squat athletes come to a complete stop at the bottom of the movement and then explode out of the hole. This will build explosive strength and take some stress off of the knee reflex action caused by a sudden stretch of the regular squat.
In sports the most power you do not go down and then suddenly come back. Football players out of position knees bent, basketball players are often in a bent knee position seconds before they explode up. In the strong competition we start from the position of events knees bent (farmers walk, tire flip, stone, etc.) so it has the explosive force of the down position is a must. In powerlifting deadlift movement comes from the knee bent position, if you try to squat deadlift stagnant pause for a while and see deadlift poundage you running again.
