Acu-Yoga
Acu-yoga is a hybrid practice combining traditional yoga and acupuncture. Both systems relax muscular tension and balance the vital forces of the body. In yoga this is done through controlled breathing, keeping the body in certain postures. In acupressure body's energy is directly manipulated by a system of points and meridians. This vital energy is called prana in yoga, chi in Chinese medicine and ki in Japanese. The meridians are the pathways which vital energy flows, and points are places where you can tap that energy.
Acupressure enthusiasts and practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine believes that when the tension builds up around these points, which prevents energy from flowing properly, creating an excess of energy in one area of the body and a deficiency in another. Acu-Yoga postures are designed to stretch naturally and press certain nerves, muscles and acupressure points, awakening the meridians and releasing the tension on the stitches, so that energy can flow freely. This process balances the body as a whole and also stimulates its natural ability to heal itself.
Stiff neck
For Chinese, the neck is the "pillar of heaven." The mind of a healthy person is calm and peaceful. The neck, however, is the first area of the body where tension hits. Where a person is under some kind of stress, the neck is an area that often becomes tense.
The neck and the meridians
Many meridians travel through the neck in a small area. When there is tension in the neck, these flows meridian can mix and cause complications such as stiffness, sore throat or swollen glands.
Acupuncture points on the neck are known as "windows of heaven." When the neck is strong, flexible and in proper alignment, these "windows" are clear and open. When the voltage interfere, however, can affect us in many ways, and we become more closed physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Because the neck is an area so fundamental and so prone to stress, it is especially important to practice techniques to unlock it. Acu-yoga realize it.
